The winners of the Santander X Global Challenge | Innovation in Healthcare award are the most innovative startups and scaleups in the health sector. Among the winners was the Polish startup Feyenally, while an honourable mention was awarded to scaleup Labpluspl.

Santander X Global Challenge | Innovation in Healthcare is a global competition organised by Banco Santander and the Oxentia Foundation with the support of Hitachi. The 5-month-long challenge ran in 11 countries and identified the most innovative healthcare solutions. The winners shared a prize pool of EUR 120,000.

Startup Winners

The winner in the Startup category was UK-based Cardiology Devices, which has developed an innovative device to treat advanced heart disease, particularly in the elderly.

Coming in second place was BioTryp Therapeutics, also from the UK, which has developed a technology that will revolutionise the way we treat infections through an alternative to traditional antibiotics.

Third place in the competition was awarded to Feyenally, a Polish startup that has developed a cutting-edge app for performing remote eye examinations via mobile phones.

Scaleup Winners

The winner in the Scaleup category was Mendelian from the UK . The team developed an algorithm that enables early identification of rare diseases by encoding case finding criteria for more than 100 difficult-to-diagnose diseases.

Second place went to CanCertain Limited, also from the UK, which is redefining the future of cancer treatment. The company is developing 3D cell culture tests that can quickly (within eight days) identify the most effective treatment for patients, thereby personalising therapy to their individual needs.

Third came the Spanish company Bitbrain, which has developed neurotechnological devices to monitor the brain and body by electroencephalogram (EEG), incorporating AI-driven software.

An honourable mention in the scaleup category went to the Polish company Labpluspl, which has developed a technology for the interpretation of blood results in 3 simple steps.
