Goal 5 - Gender equality

Goal 17 - Partnerships for the goals

The program is aimed at all adults who live in Poland. For the first time, the enrolment will be done on such a large scale. As many as 10,000 places have been prepared for participants in the new edition of the Santander Bank Poland and British Council program.

According to the EF EPI (English Proficiency Index) ranking, Poland currently ranks 13th out of 111 countries in terms of the best English proficiency of its residents. But just a few years ago, in 2016, when the Central Statistical Office checked our foreign language skills, the results were not so good. More than two-thirds of people aged 18-69 declared knowledge of some foreign language, but in most cases it was at a basic level. The largest number of adult Poles (44%) reported knowledge of English to a varying degree of proficiency.

Santander Bank Poland, in partnership with the British Council, is recruiting for the next edition of the Santander Language Scholarship | English and IELTS with the British Council. This is one of the many activities to support education and social engagement that the bank has been conducting for more than 10 years as part of Santander Universidades.

Our mission is to help Polish people develop and promote the idea of continuous learning. Our language courses are very popular. The number of applications for the previous edition exceeded our expectations, so we decided to increase the number of available places by as much as ten Times

Wojciech Leśniewski

Director of Santander Universidades in Poland

The new edition brings 10,000 places for a free online English course that focuses on the development of practical skills. The course's grades are tailored to the participants and range from A1 to C1 levels. The best scholarship recipients in the final stage of the program will be able to take the IELTS test, the cost of which will be fully covered by Santander Bank Polska.

  • 100%

cost covered by Santander Bank Polska

The British Council is responsible for the implementation of the project and the high quality of its syllabus. It is a respected institution representing the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in cultural and educational cooperation, with a focus on English language learning.

Although Poland is very high in rankings assessing English proficiency, young people often declare that they do not feel sufficiently prepared linguistically for international challenges. Knowing English is a skill that opens many doors, broadens perspectives and helps reach for a better future. We are proud to once again partner with Santander Bank Poland on this world-class project and to jointly support the development of Polish men and women

Colm McGivern
