It is the first publication of its kind in Poland, presenting the topic of sustainable development from a humanistic perspective. Santander Bank Polska has been a partner of the project from the very beginning.

The new edition of the manual has been expanded with additional chapters showing how the approach to sustainable development is permeating other areas of human life and activity. It describes, among other things, the role of inclusive education, responsible mass events and packaging design that takes into account not only recycling but also social values. One of the new chapters in the handbook was developed on the basis of discussions with representatives of Santander Bank Polska and shows how responsible business deals with the implementation of sustainable development principles on a daily basis. This contribution has enriched the handbook with a current perspective on the challenges facing business today and links theory with practice.

We believe that education is the foundation for responsible decisions, both in private life and in business. That is why we support projects that not only broaden knowledge but also shape a sustainable worldview among young people. The partnership for this publication fits perfectly with our strategic ‘Total Responsibility’ direction.

Manager of the Sustainable Development and ESG Team at Santander Bank Polska

The publication forms the basis for teaching a new academic subject, ‘Sustainable Development in the Humanistic Perspective’, which develops the skills necessary to understand and shape the modern world. The textbook and the new subject have already been introduced at six universities in Poland. The book was written on the initiative of the HumanDoc Foundation by an interdisciplinary team of researchers from six universities. The editors of the publication (Adam Drosik, Dorota Heidrich, and Magdalena) focused on presenting sustainable development in an comprehensive, understandable and engaging way.

In addition, the project that gave rise to the textbook was recognised in the TOP 10 educational projects in Poland for 2014–2022 by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System. Its online version is available free of charge to everyone, making its scientific content accessible to a much wider audience. The textbook is available as an e-book and audiobook at: https://zr.humandoc.pl.

It is a great example of how tangible cooperation between the world of science, social organisations and responsible business can help to shape the future of education.
