BioCam, Intelligent Hives, Alpha Powders are the winners of the first Santander X Startup Award – Poland 2023

The final of the first Polish edition of the Santander X Startup Award – Poland 2023 is already in the past. More than 150 startups from all over Poland participated in the competition. The winners of the competition were announced at the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

This is the first competition of its kind for startups organised by Santander Bank Polska. Winning the competition guarantees not only financial prizes and mentoring, but most importantly, the opportunity to present your business idea in an international environment – during the Santander X Global Award.

The Santander X Startup Award is a multi-stage challenge for promising young Polish companies. The whole process started in August this year. At the beginning, innovators who wanted to take part in the competition had to prepare an application and fill in the competition questionnaire on the project website. The organisers received more than 150 applications from all over Poland. In the next step, representatives of the Oxentia Foundation, which is the innovation accelerator of the University of Oxford, selected the 10 most interesting and promising companies. The selected startups then underwent a mentoring process. The finale of the competition was Pitch Day, during which the 10 teams presented their projects live in front of the Santander X Startup Award jury. After the pitches and jury deliberations, the winners of this year’s edition were announced.

  • The first place went to BioCam, an innovative medical company that develops and manufactures a smart endoscopic capsule for gastrointestinal diagnostics at patient’s home. The capsule is equipped with advanced optical systems and artificial intelligence-based image analysis, and allows a detailed examination of the entire gastrointestinal tract without the need for a traditional endoscope. The collected data is then uploaded to a secure online platform, where doctors and medical experts can analyse it and make quick diagnoses. BioCam is a breakthrough technology that has the potential to transform the approach to gastrointestinal diagnostics, providing comfort and safety for patients and making it easier for doctors to accurately assess the condition.
  • Ranking second was Intelligent Hives, a technology company that develops and provides beehive observation solutions. Its products allow the monitoring of environmental factors in the hives, such as temperature, diseases, bee behaviour, etc. In this way, Intelligent Hives can ensure the wellbeing of the bees and reduce their mortality. This has a positive impact on pollination and harvesting rates.
  • Third place went to Alpha Powders. It is a Polish company that has set itself the goal of revolutionising industrial 3D printing from polymer powders. The spheroidization technology they have developed makes it possible to produce cheaper, better and more environmentally friendly printing materials by upcycling waste, among other things.”

The partners of the Santander X Startup Award – Poland 2023 included the Oxentia Foundation, the Warsaw Stock Exchange, CatapultX, DZP Kancelaria, Tarheel Capital Pathfinder and InnerValue.
