Santander Bank Polska makes it possible to invest in green bonds

Investing in green projects can take many forms. Installing photovoltaic panels on the roof of one’s home or buying an electric car are among the most popular options, but there are definitely more possibilities. In today’s digital world, the investment opportunities are almost limitless. Santander Brokerage Office makes sure that the offer is not only broad but, above all, tailored to the expectations of clients. One of the choices is to invest in sustainable development.

Sustainability preference an important selection criterion

Prior to the provision of an investment advisory service that offers structured products, clients define, in accordance with the regulations, their investment objectives. Since last year, they have also been defining their sustainability preferences. Therefore, the first product tailored to their expectations has appeared in the offer of the Brokerage Office.

We are very keen to give our clients a real impact on improving the environment in which they live. I am particularly pleased that in such an important aspect we are cooperating with representatives of our Group, an experienced provider of ESG solutions in Europe.

Green bonds

This is the aim of selected structured products developed at the Santander Group. In January this year, WM clients (including Private Banking and Select) were able to buy structured bonds linked to the EURO STOXX 50 ESG-X index. Their issuer is Santander International Products and the underwriter is Banco Santander. The product attracted considerable interest. Therefore, in March customers can purchase more green bonds linked to this index.

It is very important that the net proceeds from the emissions of these products will be used to refinance or invest in Green Projects that meet the eligibility criteria according to the Santander Group’s Global Financing Framework for Green, Social and Sustainable Development Projects. Eligible Green Projects mean, inter alia, projects in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, pollution prevention and control, environmentally sustainable management of living natural resources and land use, terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity, sustainable water and wastewater management, climate adaptation, energy efficiency products and technologies and optimisation of energy demand

Structured products – an offer for challenging times

Structured products, thanks to their design, make it possible to make profits even in difficult market conditions (although the risk of loss should always be borne in mind). An increasing number of the bank’s clients who have them in their portfolios are finding this out. Since the beginning of the year – in addition to green bonds – Santander Brokerage Office has offered other structured products aimed at clients with sustainability preferences, such as the Split Payment Structured Bond with Capital Protection and Autocall Option in PLN linked to the iShares Global Clean Energy ETF. Importantly, they all had 100% protection of the invested capital provided by the issuer and underwriter.

We want the opportunity to invest in products related to sustainable development to become a permanent part of our offer.
