The new Flame Club for children at the Warsaw Day Oncology Ward
On August 13, the grand opening of the new Flame Club took place. This friendly, colorful space was created in the Day Oncology Ward at the Józef Polikarp Brudziński Children’s Clinical Hospital in Warsaw.
The new waiting room was created on the initiative and with the support of the Santander Foundation. It was designed for the youngest patients and their parents.
The new decoration was designed to create a safe, comfortable, and above all relaxing atmosphere for children waiting for treatment. And it worked. It was extremely moving to follow the progress of the work and see how this place became an oasis of peace and comfort in difficult times of illness, both for children and their parents.
The interior impresses with its maritime design. Colorful sofas and functional furniture have been added, and a new, impressive aquarium with a variety of fish stands in the center of the room. For the youngest patients, a play corner with activity boards, drawing tables, and comfortable sofas has been prepared. The foundation has also taken care of the comfort of parents by purchasing chairs to be placed next to the young patients’ beds and equipping the doctor’s office with a desk and chairs.
All work, from design to furnishing, was financed and carried out by the Santander Foundation. The opening of the Warsaw Flame Club is part of a larger program by the Santander Foundation, which has been running since 2019. The aim of the project is to create safe, aesthetic, and functional spaces for children in hospitals and care and educational institutions. To date, the foundation has carried out 17 renovations in 13 facilities throughout Poland, including in Jelenia Góra, Wrocław, Poznań, Białystok, Gdańsk, and Kraków.
We realize that for a child, a hospital is a place full of stress, uncertainty, and difficult emotions. That is why at the Santander Foundation, we have been doing everything we can for years to make this world a little more familiar through color and play. At the new Flame Club in Warsaw, children can take a .,” adds Marzena Atkielska.
In 2024, the Santander Foundation completed renovations at the University Children’s Hospital in Kraków and the University Children’s Hospital in Lublin, among other places. Each of these projects included renovation work and the complete furnishing of the spaces with furniture, toys, and educational equipment. In the second half of 2025, further investments are planned at the Mother and Child Institute in Warsaw and the Stefan Żeromski Specialist Hospital in Kraków.
