We are proud to have such a large group of employees engaged in corporate volunteering initiatives.

Our volunteers share their expertise and train participants of educational projects, support the organisation of events for local communities and initiate campaigns to aid those in need. The bank supports its volunteers in organisational and technical terms, and our foundation funds social programmes in accordance with the bank’s mission and values.

The bank’s corporate volunteering in 2017:

  • 580

employees engaged at least once a year in corporate volunteering

  • 27,823

beneficiaries of corporate volunteering programmes, including skill-based volunteering

  • >100

social events initiated and delivered by the bank’s employees

  • >80

    projects performed by employee volunteering

Volunteers propose their own initiatives in response to the real needs of local communities. They also attract additional sponsors and partners.

NEW TOOL FOR SUPPORTING VOLUNTEERING WORK

In June 2017, Santander Bank Polska Foundation launched a new online platform for our volunteers, which helps them plan and deliver activities, and allows the bank to have different employee initiatives collected in one place.

The platform allows employees to:

  • register as volunteers and choose a preferred form of activity,
  • propose new volunteering activities or join the existing ones,
  • apply for funding,
  • settle their volunteering project,
  • report their volunteering activities.

One of the ways to promote and inspire others to engage in activities for the benefit of people at a disadvantage, the natural environment or local communities is our annual competition “Volunteering Project of the Year”, in which the winners receive additional funds for their social initiatives.

The title of the best volunteering project of 2017 was awarded to “Food Fair -Aid for Single Mother Facilities” implemented by volunteers from the Accounting and Financial Control Division and Business Partnership Division.

Our volunteers’ projects:

An initiative prepared by the culture ambassadors of the Accounting and Financial Control Division and Business Partnership Division. Additional support was provided by the employees of Santander Bank Polska Foundation and the Multichannel Communication Centre. On 10 April 2017, a food fair was organised in Warsaw, Wrocław and Poznań. The aim of the project was to raise funds for facilities helping homeless women and single mothers. The home-made preserves enjoyed enormous popularity and allowed us to collect money that we handed over to 3 facilities. Additionally, volunteers helped with repair works and purchased essential materials.

The aim of this project was to help a single father of two. The family lived in in an outhouse in very rough conditions. The floor was made from very thin boards placed on bricks. Appalling sanitary conditions made the matters even worse. The room was divided by furniture into two parts, damp and inadequately heated in the winter. Firstly, the volunteers together with a group of local men, built a solid floor. The walls were painted, and a partition wall was put up to provide the children with more favourable conditions to study. Essential building materials were collected with the support of local entrepreneurs.

The project involved organising a cultural event for children from orphanages, family foster homes and care facilities. One volunteer wrote a fairy-tale that included several characters from other stories the children are familiar with. Other volunteers helped with organising the performance and played the roles of these characters. Two performances were staged. The tickets for the first performance were available at full price to the employees of Santander Leasing and their families. The profit from the first show was used for staging the second show for children from orphanages and other care facilities. After the performances the children had time to play.

We received recognition in the Volunteer of the Year competition in Poznań in the category of the best corporate volunteering.
