Green Strategy
The Green Strategy has long been a part of Santander Bank Polska’s business strategy. Our organization as the first commercial bank issued in 2017 green bonds worth in total EUR 137.1m (PLN 575m), provided financing to customers under the program supporting energy efficiency of buildings and launched a leasing proposal to finance investments in energy-efficient assets.
Taking into account business and regulatory reasons and the expectations of our shareholders, we have decided to withdraw from the financing of new energy coal mines and new coal-fired power units.
The Santander CO2 Framework laying down the principles of financing applicable, among other things, to coal sector companies, prohibits the financing of new coal mines and provides for a reduction of the overall exposure to coal mining until 2030, restriction of financing for existing coal-fired power plants and no financing for new coal energy projects.
